St Oswald’s RC Primary School, Accrington

This project comprised the construction of additional classroom space to the rear of the school and associated internal alterations and modernisation of the existing classroom and circulation space.

The classroom extension was constructed on traditional strip foundations along with ground bearing slab and masonry wall construction. The new roof detail was designed to carefully match with the existing structure and specialist contractors were engaged to ensure a seamless finish from new to old.

The 9-week contract period was scheduled to be completed to coincide with the commencement of new school year. The implications of this resulted in the first 3 weeks of groundwork’s being completed within a live school environment and the site and senior management team implemented numerous control measures to ensure the safeguarding and health and safety of the children were given top priority.
